Transforming Lives Through GROW BIOINTENSIVE: Meet James Mumo From Mwang’a

In the heart of Matungulu North Ward, Machakos County lies a thriving farm owned by James Mumo, a dedicated member of the Mwang’a farmer group. Over the years, James has been practicing the GROW BIOINTENSIVE methods taught at the Grow Biointensive Agriculture Centre of Kenya (G-BiACK). His journey is a testimony to how sustainable agri-practices transformed self-life.

A Flourishing Farm
This farm is quite different for James in the community, not only because it is so green but also because of productivity and resilience. By using the GROW BIOINTENSIVE techniques, he has managed to maximize yields while conserving resources. His cabbages are especially a pride of his production.

Joining Mwang’a Community: Strength in Numbers
Joining this group, he works with other farmers in the locality who share the same passion for sustainable farming. They exchange knowledge and offer mutual support to work collectively toward improved food security in their area. It, too, resonates with G-BiACK’s vision of improving self-sufficiency in keeping families and communities healthy while encouraging greener surroundings.

Learning and Growing with G-BiACK
Most of the success James now enjoys, he credits to the training he attended at G-BiACK. Hands-on training workshops at G-BiACK and from outreach officers to his farm have helped him learn and adopt GROW BIOINTENSIVE methods designed to improve soil fertility, reduce water usage, and maximize land productivity with minimum reliance on expensive inputs.

Ripple Effect
James most personal story is not just one of individual development but that of an entire community. Neighbors and fellow farmers from Matungulu North Ward always visit him to learn about how to do farming. His success inspires the others into joining Mwang’a community.
