Outreach Department
Between July and September 2025, the Outreach Department of the Grow Biointensive Agriculture Center of Kenya (G-BiACK) made significant strides in empowering smallholder farmers through agroecological practices.
During the quarter, G-BiACK conducted a series of refresher trainings across its working communities, including Kitambasye, Mwanga, Kwa Mwaura, Gethima, and Karibaribi. The sessions reinforced farmers’ understanding of agroecology and helped them adopt better composting and seed preservation techniques to enhance household seed security. In a major environmental effort, the department also established two community tree nurseries in Baringo. The nurseries, now thriving and ready for transplanting, feature both indigenous and fruit tree species. The initiative forms part of a broader plan to restore Mount Kilimambogo in collaboration with the Kenya Wildlife Service, local leaders, and community members.
The quarter marked strong progress in farmer training and restoration.
Despite facing challenges such as limited field time, unpredictable rainfall, and funding constraints, the Outreach Department continued to foster collaboration and trust among farmer groups.
The strong community participation observed this quarter reflects G-BIACK’s growing impact in building local resilience and promoting sustainable food systems. Looking ahead, the department plans to hold a learning exchange visit for farmers, organize workshops for community leaders, and recognize outstanding farmers during World Soil Day. These activities aim to deepen learning, inspire innovation, and sustain the momentum toward agroecological transformation across G-BiACK-supported communities.
